Balance System of Acupuncture with Dr. Sonia Tan
A Special Seminar
Acupuncture Canada, in partnership with Mai Medical Supplies, is presenting a special seminar with Dr. Sonia Tan, September 7-8, 2019, in Toronto. This two-day course teaches the theories, principles and applications of the Balance System of Acupuncture.
The Balance System of Acupuncture expands on The Channel Theory, exploring practices to effectively deliver more immediate, lasting treatment results. This course provides the basic foundations of five main (six in total) systems of the Balance Method/System. The systems are rooted in the concept of healing the body by balancing meridians.
You Will Learn:
- the history of the Balance Method/System
- the basis of each of the five main systems, and
- the logical processes for determining the meridians to acupuncture, including an easy-to-use format to outline the treatment plan.
Participants will be able to apply the concepts immediately in practice and develop effective treatments. A detailed explanation of the Mirroring and Imaging Formats will also be explained to assist participants in effective point selection. Dr. Tan will show how to use distal points in order to avoid aggravating the area of discomfort.
Numerous cases will be discussed with the application of each of the five main Systems for each disorder. Finally, hands-on demonstrations will allow attendees to see the Balance Method in a practical format of real treatments. The focus will be on the treatment of pain and tightness, including all types of musculoskeletal pain and injuries, chronic pain, as well as tingling, burning and numbing due to a variety of causes.

History of the Balance System of Acupuncture:
First discovered as “The Balance Method” in ancient, classic Chinese medicine texts, Dr. Chao Chen published these historic Channel Theory based practices in 1970 and at the same time began to teach these methods to a professional audience. The Balance Method was further refined by Dr. Richard Tehfu Tan, OMD, Lac, who recognized this practice as a more in-depth and refined way to utilize Channel Theory with efficient results. Through Dr. Tehfu Tan, and senior student colleagues like Dr. Sonia Tan, this method has become increasingly popularized, with its teachings expanding to a broader global audience.
